I realized my limitations at the time, so instead of writing I did quite a bit more planning. It takes me around a week these days to complete an episode, and back then it took even longer. When I finally had the idea to start the project up again, it was already August. You see, the timeline just didn't fit properly.

"Why not now? Why don't I finally try again now? I've got nothing but time, after all…" And I did! Who knows why, maybe the dating mechanics were helping put my mind off what happened? Regardless, I had been sucked back into that world, and sooner rather than later, I had been sucked back into that folder of word documents, tucked in the corner of my laptop's hard drive… So yeah, I started playing a lot of Monster Prom around then. We'd known eachother for 7 years by that point, and I had had a crush on her that whole time. We'd been friends since my second Year of High School. After immediately regretting it, she started acting cold and mean to me to incentivize me to break up with her. The secret she revealed to me when I finally went to break things off was that she'd only asked me out on a dare she got when she was out drinking with her friends. I was left confused and disoriented… but one day, I found out the truth. It was like a switch had been flipped, the kind and caring person she was disappeared, and instead she became prickly and judgemental. I'd graduated from CEGEP, spent a few weeks getting close with her, got asked out, accepted and… then we started drifting apart. In the summer of 2019, I had just broken up with my girlfriend of four weeks. I should've just picked myself back up and tried again. It was my first attempt, nothing goes well on your first try. I just didn't know what I was doing… That's not surprising, though. I would even say it was objectively terrible. Playing Monster Prom inspired me so much, and my teacher inspired me too… so I gave writing - creative writing - a try. That was the memory I had in mind when I first put pen to paper (read: fingers to laptop keyboard) in service of this story. I'd never been praised for something like that, especially not by someone I looked up to. So when I submitted my essay one day, and got it back with a note on the last page heaping praise on it and calling me a "gifted writer"… I was, frankly, over the moon. She was incredibly kind and very passionate, I honestly looked up to her a lot. I heard somewhere that the point of it is to ease the transition between High School studies and University, where the semesters are shortened considerably and you're left to get organized and manage your time on your own, but I'm not really sure.) I had an English teacher. So what do I do now? Well, in the summer of 2018, I found the answer.Ī few months earlier in my fourth semester of CEGEP* (Note: In Quebec - more specifically Montreal where I'm from - there's a school you go to for 2 or 3 years between High School and University called "CEGEP". "I want to put my education first" was the choice I made, so I swore off making music.

I was put on academic probation and re-evaluated what my priorities in life were. It was a hobby, but as time went on, I took it more and more seriously, until I eventually flunked a bunch of courses because of that focus. I had gotten really into a new game I saw the Game Grumps play, and was just writing to expel some of the creative energy I had in me at the time. When I first started working on "Monster Prom: The Animated Series" I was just doing it to kill time.

Because three years ago, I had no clue either.

I was stuck at home, and I had time.Ī year ago, I had no idea what I was about to do. Why does all that matter? Because as a result of that, my course load was pathetically small. I ended up not having to take around half of the courses a new student in my new program would have to pass in their first year. As it turned out, a heap of the classes I took in my old program were transferable credits to my new one. I had just transferred to a new program, and essentially restarted my University career… Or, at least mostly. I was in the midst of my second of three online semesters.
